 Applique

Toni Philbrick – The Keeping Room, Hampden, ME

Time: 9-3

Workshop Fee: $60 – Due on registration

Supply Fee: – Cost will vary depending on materials chosen. Payable to teacher the day of class

Class Description:

Do you like to stitch?  Wool Applique is all about the stitching.  That’s what makes it come alive.  I find it very relaxing.  When I am not in a creative mood to hook, I can just sit with my needle and thread, and not have to think!  Never done it before?  Try it!  It is so much easier when you have someone to show you how.  Pearl Cotton threads are my preferred way of stitching.  But if you have lots of floss, and you choose to use it – that’s okay too.  Threads are not included in the kits, but will be available for purchase.  You can match your threads to the wool. or use contrasting threads. Your choice!  You can do the basic blanket and decorative stitches, or add your own extra stitches and embellishments.  You will learn the stitches and how to finish off your piece.  I will also be available the next day at the Hook In if you need some help.

This year’s class will offer 3 choices : ‘ Spring Chickadee ‘ –a 14 1/2 ” round mat featuring chickadees sitting on spring flowers.  The 2nd choice is ‘Primrose Lane’, a 24″ runner with yellow primroses on both ends.  The 3rd choice an 11 x 15″ hanging mat with an “Old World Santa”, if you want to get an early start on Christmas.  This gives you a choice of a mat, runner, or hanger.  I will have 12″ hangers available for the Santas, or you can use a branch.

Teacher will contact students prior to class: Yes

Skill level: All skill levels are welcome. Stitches will be taught in class. Primrose Lane is probably the most difficult, only because it is larger and has more pieces.

Supply/Kit Description: Kits will contain all materials except threads. Students may bring their own threads and pearl cotton threads will be available for purchase.

Students Need To Bring: Sharp SHEARS.

Bio: Toni Philbrick is the owner of The Keeping Room in Hampden, ME. She began rug hooking 50 years ago and it continues to be her passion. She started her business in 1980, as Country Flowers and Accents, growing and drying flowers. That led to making lampshades and then carrying antiques.  After many years in group shops, she opened her own shop in 2010, where she can work, create, teach, display and sell. A prolific designer, she has designed hundreds of rug hooking and wool applique patterns. Her hooking style is refined primitive, using a wide cut, and her teaching method is hands on- when anyone needs help. She hopes you will join her class!

Specialties: Wool applique, proddy and wide cut hooking in a refined primitive style and hands on, personalized teaching.
